March 31, 2009 - 9 Week Update

We officially graduated from the “high risk” category this past week and had our last visit with our specialist in Charleston . At that appointment we were able to see and hear the baby’s heartbeat for the first time!! We brought out own box of tissues that time because we learned from the previous ultrasound that we tend to use all of the tissues in the exam room! Absolutely breathtaking. The heartbeat was super strong at 178 beats per minute! It sounded like a little drum roll. Maybe it’s an indication that we have an upcoming rock star on our hands! My heart wanted to leap right out of my chest when we heard it…just so incredible! From now on we will be seeing our regular OB just down the road in Murrells Inlet. We went for our first OB appointment today and got to see the baby…yet again! Seeing our little one waving around today nearly brought us both to our knees….well mainly just Garrett because I was already nearly upside down in a rocket ship like chair! Lol J It was amazing. Everything thing looked right on schedule! Unfortunately, we won’t have another ultrasound now for another 10 weeks when we get to find out just “who” is cooking in there! J

Your little embryo has now officially graduated to fetus-hood. Adding to the excitement, a Doppler ultrasound device might be able to pick up the beating heart. With basic physical structures in place and increasingly distinct facial features, baby is kind of starting to look like... well... a baby! The baby is about the size of an olive this week!
